Yes Virginia, it's that time of year again, December first is here (and at this point in the day is almost gone) and I have once again decided to work on a December Daily. For those of you not familiar with this project it is a daily documentation of moments during the month of December, conceived by Ali Edwards (go to her blog's project section for a comprehensive outline of a December Daily here and if you read through the comment sections or join her Flickr group you can see all the amazing ways people interpret and complete this project.)
One of my favorite parts about this project: THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG WAY TO DO THIS. How many things can you say that about? People make tiny books, 12 day books-31 day books, huge scrapbooks, digital, traditional, they fill it with photos, memories, words, beautiful embellishments, scraps and bits of the holiday hustle and bustle.
Last year my friend Amy made a beautiful book celebrating all her family's favorite traditions- what I loved about her take on the project was how she filled it without worrying about doing something holiday related on a specific day - she just made each day a celebration of something special to her family (I also love the fact that she referred to it as her December-Not-So-Daily.) And last year as my friends Ann and Yvonne worked on their books during our scrap night get-togethers I realized that I felt like I was missing out on documenting all the little joyful moments (and even all those less than perfect moments) that seem to slip away even more quickly this time of year when I don't take time to stop and write them down. So this year, and in fact just a couple of days ago, I decided to put together a book to fill during the next few BUSY weeks.
Here is a look at my project from 2008: December Joys 2008 and a couple of sample pages here and here. That year I embellished a lot of the pages and put my numbers down before the pictures and words- trying to take a simpler approach this time around.
I took a photo of my base pages, this year I chose not to put the numbers down first, I decided after my first go-around that I work better if I can be flexible enough to move items around on my pages and not have to repostion the numbers later (I also found myself finding many ways to cleverly cover ripped paper where I had moved my numbers.) I am using a Making Memories 8x8 red felt book this year that came with a few pre-cut pages and I supplemented with pages I cut out from my stash of Christmas papers. So with camera in hand, pen and paper in my purse, I feel ready to start documenting our December. And here is today's photo, check back tomorrow for the story that goes along with this big grin!
